Jonkershoek Fly Fishing – no more!

Just a few weeks ago, I mentioned that Jonkershoek Fly Fishing was one of my best fly fishing destinations of 2010, so I naturally wanted to wet my line there this year. Well, that was until I found out that they are no longer open for operation!

I popped the site manager a text message to confirm this and he reverted with confirmation, so it’s official, Jonkershoek is no longer in operation. I’m really sad about this, apart from being a wonderful place to have a picnic, it was a fun place to wet your line as a beginner, intermediate or professional. Their assortment of dams added various levels of difficulty, which was a huge attraction for me.

Anyway, I guess that’s how things go. I’ll have to revert to the list of fly fishing destinations and choose somewhere else to cast my flies.

If you know any more about the closure, please do leave me a comment or pop me an email, I’d love to hear more!

I am a keen novice fly fisherman and am looking for a place to try my luck for a days outing without having to stay over..
I live in Worcester. Is there anywhere that you can recommend apart from DuToits kloof lodge.
I dont mind driving 100 k’s or so.
Your recommendations will be much appreciated. Thanks

@Bernie, thanks for your comment. Take a look on the right of the website where it says, “Latest destinations”, most of them will be within 100km’s from you.

@Andre – It’s broken down into two seasons basically, the summer month’s are great for fishing the streams when the water gets warmer, then during winter you could wet your line at a dam or two.

@Morgan – Did you find a spot? Jonkershoek was unfortunately closed down, but have you looked at La Ferme?
