Lakenvlei has been explained as the best fly fishing location in the Western Cape by many anglers. The dam is positioned in the beautiful mountains in Ceres, which is about 2 to 3 hours drive from Cape Town.

There’s a beautiful lake-side cabin that can be rented for those who want to stay over for a night or two and take full advantage of the fishing, alternatively you can go for just a day trip.

Cost: R2,300 per person per day
Fish: Rainbow & Brown Trout
Tackle: Fly fishing only
Rating: 5/5
Catch and Release: Anglers may take 2 fish per day over 35cm in length
Contact: www.piscator.co.za (you have to know a member or be a member in order to fish. Accommodation is controlled by Piscator)

Cheers to Ryan from Float Tubes for assisting me with photographs.

The map and text refers to Lakenvlei in Ceres but the photos and the link refers to Lakenvlei close to Belfast?!

    Hi Admin,

Thx for the awesome pics, when you go to Lakenvlei, do you have to be guided? or could you just become a member of CPS? and make a booking through them?

@JurieEn – Unfortunately we haven’t had the pleasure of fishing Lakenvlei, so we aren’t 100% sure. I think the best thing to do would be to contact the Cape Piscator and ask them.. http://www.piscator.co.za/firstpage.html

I’ve gone with piscatorial society members. It was a lot cheaper than what you are talking about. But I think you need to be accompanied by a member. But still for that price you could join the piscatorial society get all your permits and buy yourself a cheap fly rod with the change.

It would be best to call Lakenvlei directly as rates change often and I don’t want to misquote.
